Creating a new password for MySQL

Posted by hneelu on February 18, 2009

When you set up WAMP/MySQL it will leave the password to blank and the user name ‘root’.

Log into mysql monitor – I gave details above. Or you can simple use the Wamp menu (in the icon tray in the Windows start bar) and
select: MySQL -> MySQL console.
With WAMP, do not enter password. Just hit enter and you will be logged in:

Use this command to reset the root password:
mysql> SET PASSWORD FOR root@localhost=PASSWORD('your_password');
